The Honda Corporate Philosophy

In the year 2005, Honda celebrated its 35th anniversary of selling automobiles in the U.S. In 2006, U.S. Honda division sales exceeded 1.3 million automobiles sold for a single year, and Honda sales have exceeded 1 million per year since 2000. Honda attributes its outstanding growth in the auto industry to its corporate philosophy.

The Honda corporate philosophy was inspired by Takeo Fujisawa, who joined the company as head of finance and marketing in 1949. This philosophy states:
"Maintaining a global viewpoint, we are dedicated to supplying products of the highest quality yet at a reasonable price for worldwide customer satisfaction."
The pursuit of engineering excellence flows from this philosophy, especially in the area of engine design. It has helped Honda earn the reputation of producing precise, durable and compact engines that combine high performance with high fuel efficiency.

The key to retaining this reputation and to remaining at the leading edge of technology is a strong emphasis on research and development (R&D). This devotion to R&D has resulted in numerous technological breakthroughs: The Honda CVCC (Compound Vortex-Controlled Combustion) engine used an advanced stratified-charge design for low emissions, and was the first to meet federal Clean Air Act standards without the use of a catalytic converter; Honda?s unusual oval-piston V-4 Grand Prix motorcycle engine featured eight valves-per cylinder and had the performance of a V-8 engine; and the mighty Honda V-10 and V-12 Formula One® racing engines revved to an unheard of 17,000 rpm and dominated Grand Prix auto racing in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Honda also introduced the first mass-produced gasoline engines to meet the strict California Low-Emission Vehicle (LEV), Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV) and now the Super-Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (SULEV) standards. In 1999, Honda introduced the Insight, the first production car in the U.S. with a gasoline-electric hybrid powerplant that helped it achieve the highest fuel efficiency of any gasoline-powered vehicle in the country. This technology is currently available in the 2009 Civic Hybrid model. The commitment to and fulfillment of these ideals have resulted in a manner of doing business that has been termed "The Honda Way."

We purchased a used Pathfinder on New Years Eve day. We worked with John McCorkel. He is a no pressure salesman. We also need to recognize Jamie Kohn. We live in Winona and after speaking with her we knew we had to visit this dealership because of how great she was with answering our questions. We just had a sense that this dealership is one you could trust. When we met John he made sure we knew the history of the vehicle and worked with the Inver Finance team to find a common ground for us and Inver Heights Honda so that the Pathfinder was affordable to us. The Pathfinder was very clean and outpaced comparable pathfinders we looked at in the LaCrosse/Winona area. Inver Heights beat our local dealers on price and vehicle quality/condition without a doubt. The dealership itself was very clean and comfortable. waiting areas were actually relaxing. Kids loved the huge fish tank, hot chocolate and kids play area. I cannot say a bad word about Inver Heights Honda. They are a dealership that we feel sets the standard that others should try to follow. A great place, great people, and honest/fair sales. We will be back when looking for a vehicle in the future. We will recommend them to all our friends. Well worth the 2 hour drive!

I received your letter looking for feedback about your service department.  I wanted to take a minute to let you know how fabulous your staff was there.  The girl with whom I worked with was Katie.  I had called frantically @ 8:00 in the morning.  My daughter was taking her driving test in one and half hours and my headlight on my Honda had just went out.  While I know this is not a major repair - it was just changing a light bulb, I was on extremely limited time and had my 3 month old son with me which can complicate things :).  As I said earlier Katie was awesome!!  When I explained the situation to her she had someone look at it immediately and i think it was about 10 minutes and I was on my way.  Able to pick up my daughter and make it to our scheduled appt.

Dear John,

 

I wanted to acknowledge the terrific service I have received from your Service Department. I live in the Chicago area and travel to the Twin Cities often on business. I have found your staff extremely helpful when I have stopped by for assistance. Each time, my car has been serviced immediately, and the staff was very professional and courteous. 

 

The last time I was in town, in October, I stopped by on a Friday afternoon at the start of rush hour. I had decided to head home for Chicago early and wanted to have my CRV's fluids and the basics checked before the long drive. Once again, my car was handled immediately, and to my surprise, I was charged nothing because everything checked out fine. 

 

I found that remarkable. I wouldn't expect a Service Department to provide that service for free, especially if I hadn't bought the car there. I wish your dealership WAS in Chicago, because I've never been so pleased with a dealership as I have been with yours. Thanks again for the terrific service when I have stopped by.

Dear Gentlemen,

 

Owning and driving high quality products such as Honda automobiles will induce one to develop very high expectations of any other product or service, and it is most certainly rare to have those expectations met, much less exceeded.

 

A visit to your service department most definitely falls into the "exceeded" category, as each and every time I bring my own, or another Honda from our household, in for service, I always leave happily amazed!

 

This past Wednesday evening was no exception as I arrived for a scheduled service and was met by my Service Consultant, who cheerful and cordial as ever, got things moving, the technician performed the service effectively and very quickly, and soon I was on my way. This consultant always hits the mark in terms of his ability to counsel me regarding what services should be done, and his customer service skills are the greatest! His name is Jim Walkowiak, and he is a real gem!

Your technicians are the greatest as well, as our cars always perform great when we pick them up! It is so comforting to have things go as they should!

 

We are a Honda family, and though we did not buy our current Hondas from Inver Grove Honda  (forgive us, but you were not open for business then), rest assured our next new car purchase will be from your dealership, and that is because of our typically wonderful experience with Jim and the technicians in your excellent service department.

Your team performed maintenance and repairs on my Pilot last week.  I just received your follow-up letter, and wanted to let you know that I was entirely satisfied with the experience.  In addition to routine maintenance, the mechanic noted that the radiator was leaking; the replacement was covered by my Honda extended warranty.    This was handled efficiently and quickly, and the service coordinator, Chris, was even able to secure a complementary rental car so I could make some necessary meetings while the unexpected repair was completed.  He was also pleasant, professional, and even had a sense of humor on a very hot day.
